Swamp cooler season is upon us, and it’s a great time for a reminder about the easiest way to ensure that the air in your home is balanced. This is important to make sure you are getting the most out of your evaporative cooler! All you need is a tissue.
Ready? Let’s do this!
Cut your tissue into three narrow strips.
Turn your cooler onto the HIGH COOL setting.
Open each window in your home six inches.
Go to the furthest window from your cooler and lay one strip of tissue against the screen.
You’ll get one of three results:
The tissue gently clings to the screen. CORRECT! Air is flowing correctly, and your home is evenly cooled. Try this: Mark your windows where they need to be opened so you’ll know the next time you turn on your cooler.
The tissue plasters itself against the screen. INCORRECT. Too much air is escaping the window. Try this: Open every window in your home another inch and re-test.
The tissue falls to the ground. INCORRECT. Air from your cooler isn’t even reaching the window. Try this: Close all of your windows one or two inches and try again. Repeat until the tissue gently clings to the screen. Mark the spot on the window for future reference.
It usually takes just a little bit of trial and error to get the right air balance to maximize the cooling in your home. We’re here to help if you have questions about your swamp cooler. Give us a call at 800-643-8341!
